Hip Fracture Clinical Pathway
New Pathway Improves Care of Older Patients

The Hip Fracture Clinical Pathway was developed with support of the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation by the Interdisciplinary Hip-Fracture Improvement Team at University Hospitals and Clinics, Columbia, Missouri. This dedicated team is led by David Mehr, MD, MS, and includes representatives from orthopaedic surgery, family medicine, internal medicine, anesthesiology, rehab services, nursing and social work. Over the past year, there has been an extraordinary synergy amongst these specialists who are united by the goal of improving care for hip-fracture patients.

The team developed a protocol for hip-fracture patients who are more than 65 years old and patients over 18 years old with major disability or comorbidity. Click here for the Hip Fracture Protocol. The Hip Fracture Clinical Pathway went into effect on June 6, 2005.
